Randomized trial of electrodynamic microneedle combined with 5% minoxidil topical solution for the treatment of Chinese male Androgenetic alopecia

Summary:
This study assessed the effectiveness of combining microneedling with 5% minoxidil for hair growth. The study conducted a 24-week randomized trial involving 60 participants. The participants were divided into three groups: group 1 received only topical 5% minoxidil, group 2 received local electrodynamic microneedle treatments, and group 3 received both microneedle treatments and topical 5% minoxidil. The results showed an increase in total hair density from baseline of 18.8/cm2 in group 1, 23.4/cm2 in group 2, and 38.3/cm2 in group 3.
In conclusion, the combination of microneedling and minoxidil led to the best hair growth results. The the combo being more than 2X effective than minoxidil alone.
